If you’re using Axis Atlas EDGE Miles for Accor stays, transferring directly is no longer necessarily your best option. At the current published ratios, routing your miles through Japan Airlines Mileage Bank gives you 60% more Accor Reward points.

The route is simple:

Axis Atlas EDGE Miles → JAL Mileage Bank miles → Accor ALL Reward points.

It doesn’t restore Atlas’s old Accor transfer value, but it improves on the current direct conversion without relying on a promotional transfer bonus.

How the Numbers Work

Axis currently lists these Atlas ratios:

  • Direct to Accor: 2 EDGE Miles = 1 ALL Reward point.
  • To JAL Mileage Bank: 1 EDGE Mile = 2 JAL miles.

JAL then lets you exchange 10,000 miles for 4,000 ALL Reward points.

Starting with 5,000 Atlas EDGE Miles:

  • Direct route: You receive 2,500 ALL points.
  • Via JAL: You receive 10,000 JAL miles, which you exchange for 4,000 ALL points.

That’s 60% more ALL points for the same starting balance. The 4,000 ALL points can provide €80 towards eligible Accor hotel spending, subject to Accor’s redemption rules. This is hotel credit, not cash back.

How to Do It

1. Set Up Your Accounts

You need a JAL Mileage Bank account and an Accor ALL account in your own name. Make sure the names and membership details match, and check that you can access JAL’s Accor award-request facility before moving your Axis miles.

Check your Accor automatic-conversion settings first. If your ALL account automatically converts Reward points into JAL miles, disable that option. JAL explicitly warns that points received through this exchange can otherwise be converted back into JAL miles.

2. Transfer Atlas EDGE Miles to JAL

Sign in to Axis Travel EDGE and open Points/Miles Transfer. Choose JAL Mileage Bank, link your own membership account and confirm the ratio before submitting.

If you’re starting with no JAL miles, 5,000 Atlas EDGE Miles gives you the 10,000 JAL miles needed for the useful redemption tier.

Wait for the miles to arrive before attempting the next step. Axis lists up to 10 working days for JAL transfers, so don’t rely on this for a booking you need to make immediately.

3. Exchange JAL Miles for Accor Points

Open JAL’s Accor partner page and select “Exchange miles to ALL Reward points.” Follow the “Request an Award” option and enter your Accor membership details when prompted.

Choose the 10,000-mile award for 4,000 Reward points, or an appropriate larger award shown on the page. JAL says the Accor points should arrive within 24 hours after the exchange.

Make sure you’re converting JAL miles into Accor points, not using the reverse Accor-to-JAL option.

Avoid the 5,000-Mile Trap

JAL’s conversion rate isn’t uniform:

  • 5,000 JAL miles → 1,000 ALL points.
  • 10,000 JAL miles → 4,000 ALL points.

The smaller award gives you a much worse rate. Don’t send a small test amount and redeem it at the 5,000-mile tier expecting the same value. Plan the amount you need before initiating either transfer.

The Limits Still Apply

Both JAL and Accor are Group A partners under Axis’s current rules. For an Atlas-only setup, the shared Group A allowance is 30,000 EDGE Miles per calendar year, across all Group A partners—not a separate allowance for each one.

Routing through JAL doesn’t bypass that cap. Your transfer from Axis to JAL uses the allowance; the subsequent exchange happens within JAL.

Also keep in mind:

  • Axis transfers are final, and JAL says miles redeemed for this award can’t be refunded.
  • These calculations are specific to Atlas, not every Axis card.
  • Check both live conversion screens and any applicable fees before confirming. Either programme can change its rules.
  • Don’t move points speculatively. Once your miles reach JAL, you can’t simply undo the Axis transfer if your plans change.

Could Your Atlas Miles Be Worth More Elsewhere?

The JAL-to-Accor route is useful if you want hotel credit, but it isn’t automatically the best use of your Atlas miles.

  • Air India Maharaja Club: Atlas currently transfers at 1 EDGE Mile to 2 Maharaja Points. A well-priced award flight can give you more value than the fixed Accor credit, particularly when the cash fare is high. Compare the cash fare you would actually pay with the points required, after subtracting award taxes and fees.
  • Keep the miles in JAL for flights: Before converting JAL miles into Accor points, check whether a JAL or partner flight award would serve you better. You’re giving up those flight-redemption options when you exchange the miles for hotel points.
  • Other airline partners: Depending on your trip, programmes such as Aeroplan or KrisFlyer may offer better value. Check award availability and the ratio for your card before transferring—not just a headline valuation.

For a like-for-like comparison, 5,000 Atlas EDGE Miles become either 4,000 Accor points worth €80 towards eligible hotel spending via JAL, or 10,000 Air India Maharaja Points. If those Air India points save you more than €80 after award taxes and fees, the flight is the better-value redemption. Use the current exchange rate when comparing a fare in rupees.

That doesn’t make Air India universally better. The flight must be available, suit your plans and replace a ticket you would otherwise buy. Both Air India and JAL also use your shared Group A transfer allowance.

Bottom Line

For Accor stays, 5,000 Atlas EDGE Miles → 10,000 JAL miles → 4,000 ALL points currently beats transferring directly.

Use the right JAL redemption tier, switch off automatic conversion back to JAL, and allow time for both transfers. It’s a useful workaround—not a return to Atlas’s old Accor value or a reason to move your entire balance without a booking in mind.
