Is it worth buying IHG points with this promo?

100% bonus (or 50% off) is probably the best a points purchase offer can get. You can sweeten the deal a bit by using a credit card that gives maximum bonus points. However, if you are outside the US, do check for foreign currency transaction fees on your card.

The average purchase price with this offer would be US$5 per 1000 IHG points. For a large number of IHG properties, booking with points purchased at this rate would turn out to be slightly cheaper than booking in cash.

So, it makes sense to buy at this price. However, points may get devalued over time. There is also a risk of a particular property not being available on points.

On the other hand, nights booked with points have a better cancellation policy than most advance purchase prices.

Therefore, my recommendation would be, buy only if you have an immediate use for IHG points. Buying it just because it’s discounted is generally not a smart thing to do.
