The 80% bonus is applicable only for purchases of 5000 or more points. The promotion ends on June 7th, 2023.
IHG has increased the annual limit to purchase points to 250,000 for the duration of this promo. You can buy points as long as the total number of purchased points in 2023 doesn’t exceed 250,000.
To buy or not to buy
Generally it’s not advisable to buy points unless you have a very specific reason to. Just buying points because they are on sale is never a good idea.
Points may get devalued by the time you get an opportunity to use them. Rooms are not always available on points, so holding on to cash is always better. Even if the cost is the same, you miss out on earning points on stays.
However, there may be specific properties that offer an excellent value on points booking. That is when buying IHG points makes sense. Fortunately, there are several such opportunities with IHG. Remember that the exceptional value may not be available later. Buy for immediate use only.
