Accor continues to expand its footprint in Phuket with the official reflagging of the well-known Journeyhub hotel. Now operating as the Mercure Phuket Patong Journeyhub, the property on Phang Mueang Sai Kor Road has joined the ALL (Accor Live Limitless) ecosystem, offering another mid-scale option for members. It’s not very close to the heart of Patong, and that may be a good thing.
While the “Mercure” badge promises a certain standard of reliability, we know that a reflag is often distinct from a full renovation. The property, formerly the Oakwood Hotel Journeyhub, has been a staple in Patong for years, known for its decent location and impressive rooftop infinity pool. However, the transition to the Mercure brand brings with it some lingering questions about the hard product.
The “Reflag” Reality: Old Hardware vs. New Name
Travelers booking the new Mercure should manage their expectations regarding the room conditions. Despite the brand change, the building’s infrastructure remains older, and reports from the pre-reflag era regarding humidity issues have persisted into late 2025.
Overall, the property has received good reviews - especially about their staff.
The primary complaint plaguing this property—and many older mid-range hotels in Phuket’s tropical climate—is dampness. We can see a recurring pattern of a “musty” smell in corridors and rooms, often accompanied by condensation on floors or visible mold spots on grout and curtains in reviews.
Note that this may not be true round the year.
Another new Accor hotel nearby: TRIBE Patong
Interestingly, another exciting Accor development in the neighborhood is just down the street.
TRIBE Phuket Patong has opened practically next door, offering a sharp contrast to its older sibling. TRIBE is effectively a contemporary, design-led evolution of the ibis concept—think “affordable lifestyle” rather than “budget utility.”
Because it is a brand-new construction, TRIBE bypasses the maintenance headaches of the Mercure. The rooms are compact (micro-hotel style) but are clinically clean, crisp, and dry—a significant upgrade for travelers who prioritize hygiene over square footage. With a vibrant social hub lobby and a modern aesthetic, it feels like a distinct step up from the tired “tropical city hotel” vibe, making it the stronger contender for solo travelers and couples looking for a problem-free stay in the Accor network.
