For years, Hilton has been offering status match to members of the loyalty programs of its competitor brands.
The tradition, it looks like, will continue this year as well.
If you have an elite status, you can request for a status match with Hilton. If everything goes smoothly, you should be awarded Hilton Gold for 90 days. From there, you can stay a few nights to extend the status or upgrade to Diamond.
How to status match to Hilton Gold and Platinum?
To apply for a status match, you need to have an elite status with any other program to match with.
The program is open for any hotel loyalty program. However, the chances for approval are much higher if the other elite status is with any of the following programs.
- Marriott Bonvoy
- IHG One Rewards
- World of Hyatt
- Best Western Rewards
- Choice Privileges

You need to upload a proof of elite status with the other program, as well as a proof of stay.
This is how the status match works.

To summarize, you get instant gold with 90 days validity on approval.
If you manage to stay for 8 nights within those 90 days, you get Hilton Gold valid until March 31st, 2025.
And if you stay for 14 nights or more within those 90 days, you get upgraded to Hilton Diamond until March 31st, 2025.
Easy to get, yet useful.
Hilton might have made it pretty easy to get to Gold, but that doesn’t mean there is no value in it.
No other major hotel loyalty program offers complimentary breakfast at Gold level. Hilton does. In most countries, at least.

What if you don’t have an elite status with any other program?
If you are planning to stay for more than a few nights at Hilton properties and don’t mind spending a few hundred dollars, you can apply for a status match without a status with any program.
The trick is to buy IHG platinum, stay for a night, and then apply for a status match with Hilton. IHG Platinum status comes complimentary with IHG Ambassador and can be bought for $200.
Of course, there is no guarantee that Hilton will approve your application. Think through it before going ahead with it.
