How the Bonus Works

If your account is eligible for a 100% bonus, you receive an equal number of bonus points on a qualifying purchase. For example, buying 50,000 points gives you 100,000 points in total.

The purchase limit is 200,000 points per calendar year, before promotional bonuses. Any points you have already purchased in 2026 reduce your remaining allowance. With the full allowance available and a qualifying 100% bonus, you could receive 400,000 points in total.

Check the final price, bonus and any applicable taxes before paying. The minimum purchase needed to trigger the bonus will be shown in your account.

Points Can Arrive Instantly—but Allow Up to 72 Hours

Points are often credited instantly, but IHG’s terms allow up to 72 hours for purchased and bonus points to appear in your account.

One of our readers received the points from his first purchase instantly. However, when he made a second purchase, it took two days for the points to show up.

That is one reader’s experience, not a rule about second purchases. Don’t assume a previous instant credit means your next purchase will be instant too—especially if you’re trying to book a reward night before availability disappears.

Should You Buy?

Buying points can make sense if you have a specific stay in mind and the cost of the points is lower than the cash rate you would otherwise pay. It can also be useful for topping up a balance when you’re close to a redemption.

Before buying, check reward-night availability, the points required and the comparable cash rate, including taxes and fees. Also consider any points or promotional rewards you would earn on a paid stay.

Purchases are non-refundable, and neither purchased points nor promotional bonus points count towards elite status. Avoid buying speculatively just because the bonus looks attractive.
