Ruby is heading to Bangkok, with a 184-room hotel in Sathorn planned for 2027. The project, a partnership between IHG and Asset World Corporation, will introduce the brand to Asia Pacific.
Bangkok already has plenty of IHG hotels. What makes this addition interesting is Ruby’s approach: a design-led city stay built around a good bed, a lively bar and fewer traditional hotel extras.
What Makes Ruby Different?
Ruby calls its concept “Lean Luxury”—focusing on comfort and character while keeping space and operations efficient. Think oversized beds, rainfall showers and a sociable atmosphere rather than choosing a hotel for its long list of facilities.
The Bangkok hotel will take inspiration from 1920s Siam, with a 24-hour bar, live evening performances, Marshall speakers in rooms and guitars you can borrow. Self-service technology is also part of the plan.
We see this appealing most to travellers who spend their days out in the city but still want a hotel with personality. The music-led bar gives it a different emphasis from a straightforward Holiday Inn Express stay. Whether Ruby’s streamlined approach translates into good value will depend on the rates, which haven’t been announced.
Is Sathorn a Good Base?
Sathorn makes sense for business trips and exploring Silom’s restaurants and nightlife. We’d be less inclined to choose it for a trip focused on Siam’s shopping malls or the Old City’s temples. The deciding factor will be the exact hotel address and its walk to the BTS or MRT—Sathorn alone doesn’t guarantee convenient rail access.
Where Ruby Fits Among Bangkok’s IHG Hotels
You already have InterContinental Bangkok and Bangkok Sukhumvit, Kimpton Maa-Lai, Sindhorn Midtown under Vignette Collection, Hotel Indigo Wireless Road, voco Surawong and Crowne Plaza Lumpini Park. There are also multiple Holiday Inn, Holiday Inn Express and Staybridge Suites properties.
Ruby won’t fill a shortage of IHG choices. It could offer a useful middle ground if you want more character than a conventional limited-service stay but don’t need a large full-service hotel or an extended-stay setup.
Our Take
Ruby looks like a promising addition for a Bangkok city break, especially if its rates reflect the streamlined concept. We’d compare the final price, room sizes and rail access with existing options before choosing it on brand appeal alone.
The opening is targeted for 2027, with no exact date yet. Bangkok-specific IHG One Rewards benefits and reward-night pricing also remain to be confirmed.
