IHG just announced an interesting promotion for stays in the UK, Ireland, France, and Germany.
Dubbed as ‘Grandparents stay free’, this promotion offers the second room free when you book 2 rooms. Note that it’s not required to book the room for your grandparents only. It could be for any family members.
I truly love the name they chose for the promotion :)
What I don’t like is the complicated set of terms to use this promotion.
- You need to book at least 7 days in advance
- You have to book for exactly 2 nights. Yes, nothing less, nothing more. No multiple bookings allowed for consecutive days, either.
- It has to be exactly 2 rooms in the booking. If you book 3 rooms, you will probably not get the benefit.
- And you won’t see the discount on your reservation. It would be applied by the hotel during check-in. (They should make the cheapest room free).
It totally beats me why they would make it so complex. However, it is what it is.
If you are looking for a longer stay or for more than 2 rooms, it should be pretty simple to do that. You just need to use IHG account of anyone else that you are traveling with. And make sure the check-in and check-out process are separate from your booking.
There’s still a risk, as the manager at check-in might decide to consider it as breaking terms of the sale and cancel your discount.
The promotion is valid only for selected bookings made from 30 March 2022 to 20 April 2022 for stays at participating IHG Hotels & Resorts in the United Kingdom, Ireland, France, and Germany between 6 April 2022 and 15 July 2022.
