We are always excited when the map gets a little bigger for points and miles enthusiasts. If you’ve been holding onto Marriott Bonvoy points for a trip to Central Africa, your options just expanded.

Marriott International has officially entered the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), planting its flag in the capital, Kinshasa, with not one but two properties: the Protea Hotel by Marriott Kinshasa and the Four Points by Sheraton Kinshasa.

For business travelers and adventurers heading to the DRC, this is huge news. Until now, reliable, chain-standard accommodation where you can earn elite nights and points was virtually non-existent in the region.

Here is what you can expect from the new additions.

Protea Hotel by Marriott Kinshasa

Located in the upscale Gombe district (near the Congo River), this property seems to be aiming for a mix of diplomatic and leisure traffic. It’s an 88-room property that leans into the local vibe—think a bright atrium lobby, local artwork, and greenery.

  • The Standout Feature: It boasts Kinshasa’s first indoor hotel pool. If you know the humidity in the region, you know this is a game-changer for a midday cool-down.
  • Dining: “Marché 15” serves as the all-day dining spot with international and local cuisine, plus a Lobby Bar for evening drinks.
  • Vibe: Intimate, stylish, and residential.

Four Points by Sheraton Kinshasa

If you are in town strictly for business, this might be your new go-to. Located right in the Central Business District, it’s larger with 134 rooms and focuses on the standard Four Points functional comfort (yes, that includes the signature Four Comfort Bed).

  • The Standout Feature: A rooftop pool and bar (“83 Sky Lounge”) with panoramic views of the city. A solid spot to unwind after meetings.
  • Dining: Lufira Restaurant and the rooftop lounge.
  • Amenities: A 24-hour fitness center and significantly more meeting space than the Protea.

Opening Offers & Deals

While we haven’t spotted a specific “Grand Opening” bonus point package just yet, these hotels are participating in the current Marriott global promotions.

  • Member Rates: We noticed the Four Points showing availability under Marriott’s standard “Members Save” rates.
  • Redemption Sweet Spots: Since these are brand new to the system, keep an eye on redemption rates. New properties often debut with lower dynamic pricing before the algorithm adjusts to high demand.

The Bottom Line

Kinshasa is a vibrant, strategic hub, and having trusted brands like Protea and Four Points makes the logistics of visiting much smoother. Plus, it’s two new ways to chase that Titanium status.
